Muscle Back Pain
The largest single cause of muscle back pain is poor posture, slouching the shoulders and curving the back when sitting or walking will in time cause you problems. Lifting heavy items in the incorrect manner, over exerting yourself during physical exercise, sitting or standing in the same position for long periods of time and even stress can cause Muscle Back Pain . More serious causes can be disc problems in the spine or perhaps the muscles have become inflamed and painful due to whiplash following a motoring accident. Whatever the cause muscle back pain can strike in any area of the back causing great discomfort and distress.
Back muscle pain is not something which will go away if you ignore it, in fact if left untreated it can develop into a far more severe back problem. It is important that you get a proper diagnosis before you start any remedies of your own, so see a doctor who will probably arrange for an x-ray and perhaps prescribe pain killing medication or muscle relaxants. Provided your doctor is in agreement you can go ahead and try the numerous ways available for relieving muscle back pain.
1. For Muscle Back Pain which is not excessive an ice pack applied to the painful area can give almost immediate relief.
2. Massage can also work wonders for muscle back pain by increasing the circulation and giving a warming effect thus reducing pain.
3. A more prolonged programme of treatment is required in cases where the muscle back pain is chronic. This should include a healthy, well balanced diet, gentle exercise as well as pain relief in some form.
4. Introducing heat to the painful area can also give relief. Try using a hot water bottle which is wrapped in a hot, damp towel.
5. Muscle Back Pain can be brought on by stress. If this is the cause then meditation and yoga could be the perfect solution. These allow you to de-stress whilst the exercises can help to strengthen the back muscles and if practised regularly can also help increase the flexibility of your back.
6. Stretching exercises are relatively simple but will help to loosen up muscles making the back more flexible thus reducing muscle back pain.
7. Alternative medicines and therapies are ever increasing in popularity and in muscle back pain this is also the case. Therapies such as acupuncture or magnetic therapy have proved useful in the treatment of severe cases.
Occasionally back pain is a symptom of a more serious medical condition and for this reason as I stated previously you MUST consult a doctor or even a chiropractor for an accurate assessment of your condition before proceeding with self treatment.
Only you can prevent and cure the misery of muscle back pain by taking care of your back possibly with even more care than the rest of your body. Daily exercise, a healthy diet, taking time to de-stress and maintaining good posture will all help. Give it a try!
